David Beckham and Marilyn Monroe have been named the all-time style icons of the past 50 years.
The former England captain may be mocked for his fashion sense but he topped a list of male stars which included Cary Grant, Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra.
Wife Victoria could only manage seventh place in the female list, just pipping supermodel Kate Moss.
Hollywood legend Monroe remains the ultimate style icon for women, 44 years after her death. Audrey Hepburn was second while Diana, Princess of Wales was ranked third in the survey by Canon.
Madonna was fourth, ahead of Fifties screen beauty Grace Kelly. In sixth place was original supermodel Twiggy, followed by Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss, Sophia Loren and Kylie Minogue.
"Trends come and go but style is something that, for these icons, is constant," said Heat magazine's Hannah Perry.
"It's fantastic to see Marilyn Monroe topping the polls for all time. She really does epitomise style. Just looking at her name conjures up beautiful, truly iconic images of her captured throughout her life.
"Her domination of this poll was no doubt helped by the likes of Scarlett Johansson and Gwen Stefani adopting her style."
In the male stakes, the top three consisted of Beckham, Cary Grant and Elvis.
Singer David Bowie was fourth, and the likes of Frank Sinatra, James Dean, Robbie Williams and John Travolta also featured in the list.
